River crossing
After being in New Orleans for just over a week, I just had my first journey over the Mississippi River. It wasn't much of a trip, just a bus ride over the river to get to Dick's (sporting goods) for some new boots. The Walmart special sneakers just weren't cutting it, so I had to spend some money and buy something new. I figured it would be a long time before I find some size 13 boots in a thrift store that had enough life left to be useful. I spent way more than I wanted, but they are comfortable and my feet are pretty important these days.
Aside from the trip to the mall, I'm laying low today since the weather outside is frightful (wind and soaking rain). I should be back on the move tomorrow though. So far, I've loved a lot of what I've seen of New Orleans and the people who live here. It has issues of course, but the people are pretty friendly and diverse. It's nice to visit a place where the mass transit is used by pretty much everyone and lots of people seem to genuinely care about others. North Carolina seems less habitable than ever.
